Will Croker has praised the efforts of Bournemouth Rugby Club personnel following the horror injury suffered by replacement Mike Haines.
The exciting back appeared to get his leg stuck in the turf with six minutes left of the Lions’ 34-15 South West Premier bonus-point win over Exeter University at Chapel Gate.
But with medically-trained players such as centre Freddie Gleadowe and fly-half Adam Davis on hand, Croker said Haines was well looked after.
Croker said: “The one thing I do want to say more than anything is that how pleased and proud I am to be able to offer the players the medical provisions that we do have here.
“We have Mr Matt Baker - who is a consultant in A&E - plus Hannah Hunter who is a top paramedic.
“Then we have Andy who is one of the most qualified physios I have ever worked with and then to have Adam and Freddie on the pitch who can also offer assistance as doctors.
“These guys put their bodies on the line because they have got to go to work on Monday morning and to be able to offer them that level of protection and cover is one of the most pleasing things about the environment we have created.”
The South West Premier match still had six minutes to play, but the Chapel Gate players managed to refocus on the job in hand following the nasty injury and sneak over for another score.
Croker was full of praise for their ability to switch their minds back onto the game after witnessing a teammate in pain.
Croker added: “The boys stuck to their jobs, they stuck to their tasks because it was not easy to refocus but they did exactly what they needed to do and as ever I am incredibly proud of what they have done.
“Obviously after Mike’s injury it was one of those things with ten minutes to go - where you are 12 points up - and if the boys’ heads are not on it then it can be a long ten minutes.”
