Bournemouth Rugby’s Community Development Manager, Stu Gallacher and Bournemouth Rugby Apprentice, Scott Curtis represented the Club at the Active Dorset School Sports Conference on 30th September held at QE School, Wimborne. The event was attended by 200 delegates including Headteachers, Governors, Secondary Heads of PE and Primary PE Co-ordinators.
Delivering rugby into schools through PE provision and consultancy as well as via after school clubs, Bournemouth Rugby’s Community Partner, Rippa Rugby, now has 550 children across six school engaged in the sport every week.
Stu Gallacher, said: “Attending the Active Dorset Schools Sports Conference gave us the opportunity to speak with a mix of PE lead teachers about what we can offer in terms of PE support, as well as those who run clubs at lunch time and after school who are looking for additional help. What was really encouraging was the number of people who sought us out as the primary Club and schools program provider. This is great news both for us as a Club and for rugby in our County.”
This year the Conference focused on "How PE, school sport and physical activity contribute to academic and emotional well-being" with National Schools Commissioner Sir David Carter as the opening Keynote Speaker and representation from Ofsted, the Association of Physical Education, Youth Sport Trust and the Department for Education and Public Health.
