Bournemouth Rugby Club can benefit from the world famous Sevens tournament - according to first team back rower Ali Bennett.
A number of players from both the first and second teams at the Chapel Gate side will take to the field under the name ‘The Hurn Airport Wind Socks.’
The name derives from the close proximity to Bournemouth Airport, and Bennett says the shorter version can lend itself to the 15-man game.
Bennett said: “Dan Boer, who is one of the guys who plays, just decided that he really enjoyed playing Sevens rugby and started a team so he could play more Sevens.
“They decided they would call themselves ‘the Hurn Airport Wind Socks’ because I suppose why not?
“I guess there were enough teams named after animals or things like that and it is just mostly guys from Bournemouth who play like Sammy Veneroso, Robbie Boyd, Olly Yeates - people like that.
“Adam Higgins has started playing a bit as well now and it is just fun and it is just good to keep your fitness up over the summer.”
The world famous tournament will take place over the weekend of May 24 until 26, and Bennett is looking forward to getting a run out.
With the Lions winning promotion to National Two South next season, Bennett says the tournament - and the training - will keep a number of the Lions’ players sharp.
He added: “I think it will definitely suit my game because I have played a lot of Sevens so trying to keep the ball alive is something I quite enjoy doing.
“Fitness is a big part of it, but also in Sevens you have got to run really good support lines.
“If one man carries the ball and there are two defenders there and there are not as many players on a team, they are going to turn the ball over a lot easier.
“So you have got to almost be no support player then they are going to turn the ball over so you have got to be following the ball or following the man in.”
