Will Croker has picked what he regards as ‘one of the strongest Seconds team ever seen fielded’ for their trip to Richmond on Saturday.
The Lions’ second string have enjoyed some notable road victories recently at places like third team Henley and second side Bury St Edmunds.
The Director Of Rugby is hoping to make it three successes away from home on the bounce and increase their grip on the Zoo Sports Shield Division Two summit.
He said: “Our Seconds have been going really well recently having enjoyed wins recently at places like Bury St Edmunds and Henley and this is going to be another big test for them.
“However, I have to say it is one of the strongest Seconds teams I have ever seen fielded - it has got first-team appearances running right the way through it.
“Right from number one Andy Spikings, right the way through to two Pat Fraser into the second row with Mike Treloar.
“Right into the back row with Tom Napier and Matt Warwick is in there plus Ben Allman is in too, so it is astonishing - and that is just in the pack!”
The experience in the Seconds team - known as The Nomads - means there is a knock on effect to their Third team also.
The Thirds welcome ninth team Blandford, who are just one point behind the eighth placed Chapel Gate side, and Croker says they have plenty of experience.
Croker added: ‘In the backs of our Seconds, there is Sammy Veneroso, Danny Kirkpatrick, Jesse Otway, Alex Sutherland and Dan Stewart - so it is a sensational side and we are incredibly proud of that.
“That then means our Thirds team is incredibly strong also because of availabilities and they have got guys who have played first-team rugby not so long ago with the likes of Chris Jeffes, who was in the first team at the beginning of the season before unavailability took him out.
“It is a really, really strong weekend for us and we are really looking forward to getting back into it after a gap week so hopefully we will be able to pick up the results we need.”
