Bournemouth Lions Wheelchair Rugby, sponsored by ‘grinning dog records’ is excited to be one of the first teams in the country to be given the approval by the governing body GBWR to Return to Play. This Sunday [20th Sept] will see the Lions return to Rossmore Leisure Centre for the first time since March.

Bournemouth Lions Wheelchair Rugby Vice-Chair, Becky Hill said, “We are overly delighted to be getting back into our rugby chairs this weekend. We have worked hard to put all the necessary safeguarding procedures in place to keep us all safe and are now ready to get back to training following the government guidelines and GBWR procedures.”

We have been patiently waiting to get back at it again, although it will look very different to start. Our team has been doing what they can at home, taking on club wide challenges and some friendly socially distanced outdoor sessions at Branksome Rec who kindly allowed us to use their outside basketball court. It will be amazing to see everyone back at our home and in their rugby chairs, burning up the court.”, said a very happy and excited Lions Wheelchair Rugby Head Coach, Rob Emery.

“Whilst the team having been keeping in contact via ZOOM calls and quizzes, it’ll be great to see everyone in person again. The social aspects of being part of a warm and supportive club like ours should not be under-estimated for our mental well-being.”, adds Andy McEvoy, Lions Covid-19 lead.
