Mike Pope warned Bournemouth team-mates not to give themselves too much work to do in second halves of their South West Premier promotion pursuit.
In their last two matches, The Lions have given one another a mountain to climb by falling behind against both Brixham and Camborne.
In Devon, Will Croker’s men were 15-3 behind, before fighting back to win 20-18 - and on Saturday, The Lions were 19-7 down until eventually triumphing 27-26.
The versatile back said: “We are obviously pleased to get the win against Camborne, but we left it a little bit tight and if you look at the second half - we won the second half but when you go in at half-time with that many points to chase down then it is going to be difficult.
“So it looks very close because obviously we let them build that score early on and then we were forever chasing it back.
“It is difficult to chase the gap back because every mistake or every penalty you give away is amplified - or magnified - so you are chasing the game.
“You have got to keep hold of the ball - so little mistakes here or there are a little bit more significant when you are chasing the game because you need the ball and you need to keep hold of it.”
The Chapel Gate side have now won 17 of their 18 opening games in the fifth tier of English rugby and sit a huge 11 points clear of promotion chasers Barnstaple in second.
But after giving themselves so much to do in the second period of their last two matches, Pope has warned his players against falling into the trap of becoming too complacent.
He added: “I feel a bit down about the game, because I personally was not happy about my own personal performance in that first half and we cannot expect to win.
“I am not saying we deserve to go up but we got a bit complacent and we cannot expect to win every week - we have got to work for it.
“It is definitely a lesson for us to learn from that game but personally I thought the lesson would have been learned last week.
“Don’t get me wrong it sounds like I am doing Camborne down but I’m really not.”
