IMPORTANT UPDATE FROM BOURNEMOUTH SPORTS CLUB

TO ALL BOURNEMOUTH SPORTS CLUB MEMBERS

August Update

Not everything happens at the pace we’d like but at last I am delighted to update the Members on some recent developments at the Sports Club.

The Trustees first priority has always been to install new boilers for the main changing rooms, including those for the Squash courts. The negotiations with LV=’s assistance have been protracted in establishing the right facility, and agreement has now been reached to install these at the beginning of September. The Trustees wished to have had these in situ earlier, but it was not to be, however the four week installation programme is planned so that showers will be available at all times. We hope that the long term benefits will outweigh some modest inconvenience over that time.

Those who use the Club during weekdays will have noticed that cars are now regularly parking at the front of the main car park; this is potentially a most encouraging long term commercial deal for the Club with a business on the Aviation Park. Also the footballers will notice ground works close to the hedge line adjoining Chapel Lane around the back of Football 1, 2 &3; again we have reached agreement with a company on the Aviation Park to run an electric cable under our land. Whilst we appreciate that this might affect the fringes of these pitches to a very small degree at the beginning of the season, the works, in every respect, are at no cost to us including full reinstatement of our land, and we have received a valued capital sum as compensation.

Members will have noticed that fencing has now been placed all round the Garden Area together with new benches, we will be adding some play equipment shortly: hopefully after some further modest improvements this will encourage the use of this area as a family friendly amenity. We have to thank Tesco’s for supporting this project. At the last Fix-It Day with LV=, the old sheds at the back of the Garden Room were removed, the base around this area will be upgraded shortly and will be an ideal spot for BBQs.

General cleaning and painting of the Club House has begun in the Lounge Bar along with improving the toilets in that bar as well. LV= have shown an interest in regularly using this for small meetings. Although the access is limited for wheel chairs the room has an attractive outlook, so if you or your company or business have the need for similar use please let the Office know.

For those of you who have been concerned with a lack of draught beer recently, you’ll be delighted to know that the problems in the cellar have been resolved and there is plenty to go round!

September Update

Th Trustees are pleased to announce that Mark Rance has been formally appointed as the Club’s General Manager. Mark has been the driver for several of the recent projects and has been active in bringing them to fruition. We are all aware that there is still a huge amount to do, and Mark is very keen to play his part in driving this forward. I am sure that we will all continue to support him in this challenging role.

Secondly, we have recently appointed Alex Dyer on a part time basis as an additional member of our maintenance team. His vigorous outlook has made an impact already, and he is catching up on many small projects around the site. Alex has started painting internally, and his work in the Lounge Bar is now complete.

Thirdly, the Trustees have considered a number of options for catering going forward and finally agreed to appoint Matt Jones to rejuvenate our catering provision. Matt, trading as ‘Sweet as a Nut Catering’ has already produced some excellent food for some of our members in the clubhouse, and has a fine reputation locally. The plan is for the Club to always be in a position to produce excellent food for local businesses re small meetings and functions generally at any time of the week. So if your company or business intends to put on a function let Mark or Matt know, and we may well be in a position to offer excellent good value fare at the Sports Club.

Lastly I’d like to remind members to use their BSC Club membership cards whenever you visit the clubhouse. Remember that your card gives a 10% discount to you plus another 5% going to your Section every time you use your card for food and drinks (excluding team teas). Incidentally, the system is much more efficient if you ‘preload’ your card with 2/3 weeks probable spend at a time, it cuts out so much messing around at the bar and everyone gets served so much quicker!
