Bournemouth back Mike Pope hopes his side are not in the situation they found themselves at Brixham too often.
With the South West Premier leaders staring down the barrel of their second defeat of the season at half-time, they summoned huge courage to respond.
Two tries in the final five minutes secured a 20-18 victory - and their 16th win from their opening 17 fixtures - and Pope was glad they passed the test.
He said: “Hopefully we will not be in those situations much this season but it is nice to know that we can keep hold of the ball and we can grind out the wins if we need to because we are definitely going to need that for next year.
“Fair play to the boys, that is huge pressure on the players and that shows huge mental toughness and resilience on them to come away with the win away from home when we were chasing the game.
“Brixham played in the right areas of the field, and they got the penalty they needed in the second half to make us need two scores to win it.
“We readdressed it at half-time and started playing with a little bit more control and then slowly got back into the game and played in the right areas of the pitch.”
Pope comes from a background of coaching from his degree days at Exeter University.
The intelligent halfback also showed his versatility by switching from the wing to fly-half when starting ten George Drake departed with an injury.
Admitting it was impossible to recreate those scenarios on the training field, Pope said his side showed huge mental resolve.
He added: “It is really difficult to coach that sort of thing, because in training you can put pressure on the boys by putting them into scenarios by saying ‘you need seven points to win it and the clock is dead’ - but you don’t get those sorts of positions often.
“You can try and get hold of the ball and try and get the defence to pressure you, but you don’t get those situations a lot - thank god.
“From a coaching point of view you have just got to try and put the boys into that scenario, and hope they come out of it.
“But to be honest, we have not done a lot of that at all and I am really, really impressed with how well we kept hold of the ball.”
