Bournemouth hooker Joe Tarrant says his side can now cement their advantage at the South West Premier summit.
The Lions downed their nearest title rivals Ivybridge 20-10 at Chapel Gate last Saturday to push 11 points clear at the top of the table.
The 10-point winning margin also meant the Devon outfit did not even record a losing bonus point, which Tarrant says could be massive come the final furlong.
The front rower said: “It meant everything for us to beat Ivybridge - they were second in the league and everyone put a massive shift in for us and we really had to dig deep for it.
“Ivybridge are a really good team, but we are top of the league and we can open up a bit of a gap on them now, and we have just got to keep that going now so the boys are absolutely buzzing.”
It is one thing to beat your closest rivals in the table, but it is another to stop them gaining anything from a meeting with you whatsoever.
It effectively made it what pundits might call an “eight pointer” with four points for a win.
By nilling the team who are hot on their heels, Tarrant says it gives his side great momentum for the rest of the campaign.
He added: “It meant everything to us to not even give them a single point - such as a losing bonus point - and we have not conceded a single point all season against anyone and that is how we want to keep it now.
“That means that gap is just going to get bigger and bigger and we have just got to keep it going now.
“If you look at all of the league forums, everyone was looking out for this game as it was a big one and everyone knows we are the team to beat now so we have just got to keep it going now and live up to everyone’s expectations.”
