Perfectionist sharp shooter Grant Hancox says it will be a long, hard summer of practicing his kicking after missing his final shot off the tee against Newton Abbot.
The versatile back is known as ‘the stat king’ within the Lions’ camp due to his obsession with the numbers.
But after missing his eighth conversion on Saturday in the 54-10 road rout - despite having landed the seven prior to that - the Hartpury graduate said it left a bitter taste in the mouth.
Hancox said: “It was a really gettable kick for me - yes it was really windy but I thought I judged it nicely - but a big gust of wind then came across and took it onto the post which was frustrating having got some tougher kicks earlier.
“I was a bit annoyed by it and I got a little bit of stick from the lads for it in fact - Jon Sanchez said to me that would have been 100 per cent for the day if you had not hit the post - which I did not need reminding about because I was aware of it.
“So it was frustrating but it is going to be an off season of probably a lot of time on the training paddock practicing my kicking and trying to do my best for the boys next year.”
Despite breaking the club points’ record with his seven successful conversions, the gracious playmaker paid tribute to his team-mates who gave him the chances to split the uprights.
Hancox added: “Yes I have the points record because I am the kicker and I have got the odd try here and there - and it is only the odd try here or there - but it is all about the boys really.
“Some of the lads scored some great tries today and I was lucky enough to convert seven of the eight tries we scored.
“But I was a bit annoyed to hit the post with one of the conversions today - but that is goal kicking for you and we now move onto the last game next week.”
