Halfback Mike Pope is happy to play anywhere in the Bournemouth team as long as he is helping his side.
The versatile playmaker can operate in either position and last summer rejoined the club he graduated from before departing for pastures new.
Pope appeared for former Premiership champions Exeter Chiefs but with fellow Devononians Newton Abbot visiting Chapel Gate (2pm) on Saturday, he is happy to operate wherever he is needed.
He said: “I said to our coach Jon (Sanchez) that I am happy to play wherever in the team - and as long as I am playing then I am happy - and as long as I am helping the team then that is good enough for me.
“I suppose my favoured positions are nine or ten because I feel like the way I play, you are a lot closer to the action there.
“You actually have a big influence over the tempo and momentum of what you can put on the game and I feel like that is probably better to where I’m suited.
“But with Adam Davies coming back to the club, he has gone quite well for the last few weeks, so it is going to be really good to have him back in the side.”
Having experienced life at Chiefs, Pope says he learned one of the vital components to success is the culture of a club.
In May 2017, underdogs Chiefs lifted English rugby’s highest accolade despite just seven years in the top flight and Pope says Bournemouth can learn from them.
He added: “Last year when Wasps or Bath were signing these huge names from Super 15 Rugby for all sums of money - and they are unbelievable players - but Chiefs still beat them, and again they beat them with a squad with the likes of Stu Townsend - who was on loan to us at the time.
“He was on loan to us for the first half of the year and then finished playing nine in the Premiership final, so it is things like that which are unbelievable what culture can do so if you look at their squad and their culture, it has not changed that much.
“It is the same with Saracens for a long time and that has paid dividends really.
“Everyone knows their role and what the crack is, and they get on with it and that has been huge in their success really.”
