Will Croker said some half-time pointers helped his side blow away Weston-super-Mare 62-12.
The in-form Lions - who lead South West Premier by 11 points - were just 12-7 ahead at the break following a fairly even opening period.
But five tries in the third quarter of the match took the game away from the visitors and the Director Of Rugby said it was a game of two halves.
He said: “I thought there was a bit of post-Christmas rustiness after three weeks off from playing, and I thought it looked a little bit like that in the first half.
“We were breaking the gain line quite easily off of first or second phase ball and we talked about once there was chaos how quickly could we get control back.
“What happened in the first half was every time we made a line break we felt like we had to go in and score.
“So it was quite a calm chat really, we just said ‘when we get into broken field, let’s just try and get back into our shape as quickly as we can.’
“There were some fantastic tries out there today - some of the interplay was absolutely marvellous - and it was the ideal game to blow off the Christmas cobwebs.”
The home side made it 14 wins in their opening 15 games - with just their defeat at a Will Greenwood-coached Maidenhead the only blemish on their record.
After seeing his side rack up half a century of consecutive points in the second half, Croker admitted he actually felt some sympathy for his side’s opponents.
He added: “I think we scored 50 points in the second half alone, which takes some doing.
“I felt a bit sorry for Weston because at half-time they were well in the game, but we came out and scored early and as soon as we got our heads up we started to play with that confidence that we had pre-Christmas.
“Then all of a sudden we were able to put our pedal to the metal as it were and I was really pleased.”
“Without the support of our team partners non of this would be possible, Fortitudo, Hoborne, Codestone, Enhanced, Eco, Laceys, Goddards.”
