Sam Hardcastle paid tribute to his team-mate’s for helping him secure Bournemouth’s 13th bonus point this season out of their opening 20 South West Premier games.
With the Chapel Gate clock well into added time against Drybrook on Saturday, the veteran scrum-half picked up from a scrum and stole over to score.
Their fourth score showcased the south coast sides’ dominance perfectly, and the experienced halfback said his fellow Lions helped put him in the position to score.
He said: “It was pretty much a case of we had to get the fourth bonus-point try after Drybrook went down to 13 men at one point following two yellow cards.
“I think our coach Will Croker would have been quite upset with us if we hadn’t got it.
“But the forwards gave us such a good platform and a good scrum with the boys outside of me running some good decoy lines, so the space just opened up for me and I just went for it.”
Hardcastle showed all of his experience to dart over under the posts late on to hand Grant Hancox an easy conversion in front of the posts.
Wing Hancox took full advantage of the Forest Of Dean side’s indiscretions with a personal haul of 1,000 points for the club and 200 for the campaign so far.
He booted a total of 12 points from the tee to push him past the two milestones, and Hardcastle said the accurate kicker did well to take advantage of some of the referee’s decisions.
He added: “I think there was a high penalty count out there from both sides, and the referee made a few odd decisions, which I am not really sure what some of them were for to be honest.
“So when that sort of thing happens people do get put in the sin bin so I think we were down to 13 men at one point but we defended really well at that point, and did well to not concede a score.
“It was good to get the bonus point and now we get back on the road and have a tough away trip to Exeter University in two weeks’ time, so it was good to get that in the back of our locker.”
