‘Disappointing’ was the word used most by Bournemouth playmaker Grant Hancox following their first loss of the season.
The Lions went down 28-16 at a Will Greenwood-coached Maidenhead side - in a game they failed to register even a single point from.
It was always going to be tough on the road - and at South West Premier’s fourth placed team - but Hancox could not disguise his sorrow.
He said: “You hit the nail on the head by saying it was disappointing because it was massively disappointing.
“It was a day when the opposition have showed up quicker then we did I think and with a little bit more fire in their belly.
“They were outstanding and I think without a shadow of a doubt they were the best team we have played all season, and it shows.
“We have conceded hardly any points on average on the road this season - and we don’t leak many points because we haven’t done all season - so it is over double what we average conceding a game so it is massively disappointing.”
With their first loss means Will Croker’s side can no longer post a perfect record for the season.
Following 11 wins in their opening 11 fixtures, that run has now come to an end, and Hancox said it was all about how his team respond to it now.
He added: “It is so cliched to say that we were not looking at our record of winning 11 from 11 because now we are 11 wins from 12 - but to not get any points - to not even get a losing bonus point.
“I said a few weeks ago at Exmouth should we ever be on the end of a loss that even losing bonus points are very important but we have come away with nothing today.
“We get back on the road to Bournemouth with absolutely zero points from week 12 which is massively disappointing and now it is about bouncing back.
“We were just saying in the huddle at the end of the match there that the lads are gravely disappointed but it is about bouncing back now and about taking that feeling of disappointment and not allowing it to happen again.”
