BOSS Will Croker wants to “explode across” the South West Premier promotion finish line with seven games left - starting with visitors Drybrook on Saturday.
The Lions sit 15 points clear of second side Barnstaple at the summit of the table and are in pole position for going up a level.
They have already beaten their Gloucestershire opponents away from home - with a four-try bonus point - last October in a 27-14 success in the Forest Of Dean and Croker says he wants more of the same.
He said: “We want to win this last quarter of the season, and we have got seven games left which we probably want to win three of those with bonus points, to guarantee ourselves to go up.
“So we want to try and explode across the finish line rather then just get there with a whimper.
“This week we play Drybrook who are a good team and like to get at you and have had a really good year to date and have only lost to Maidenhead, which we all know is a tough place to go.”
Croker’s men suffered their only defeat of the campaign at a Will Greenwood-coached Maidenhead so knows securing the double over Drybrook will be no easy task.
To try and combat their threat, he has bolstered his back row with a triple-threat combination of breakdown scavengers Ben Russell, Lewis Nicholls and Ali Bennett to help rule the ruck.
Croker added: “We have worked hard in training on trying to play one channel wider, and in trying to get the ball into the backs’ hands a little bit quicker, so they can try and exploit some spaces.
“That means our work rate from our forwards needs to be extremely high in order for us to do that.
"So we have gone for a mobile back row with Lewis Nicholls, Ben Russell and Ali Bennett, which effectively are three number sevens in the back row.
"That will hopefully give us that mobility to get around the park.
“I am really looking forward to the game though and it is almost like a mini little season now because we have had three quarters of the season already and we have got seven games left now.”
