Will Croker believes his side need three more bonus-point wins to secure promotion and the South West Premier title.
Following the 33-31 away-day success at 12th team Cleve, The Lions pushed a huge 15 points clear of second placed Barnstaple.
The Devon side succumbed 27-19 at Bournemouth’s next opponents at Chapel Gate this Saturday - tenth team Drybrook - and Director Of Rugby Croker says his side are nearly there.
He said: “With Barnstaple losing to Drybrook, I think that put us 15 points clear of Barnstaple, which is three bonus-point wins.
“So with seven games to go, effectively if we win three of those with bonus points then we should be home and dry.
“I think three bonus points will probably do it - I think mathematically that should be enough.
“If we were to lose our next three games, I would still expect us to get bonus points in them, so I think that would probably take us beyond Barnstaple.
“There was a bit of a feeling of relief after that win, because we are now at the stage of the season where we start ticking the games off and it just goes to show the resilience of the boys to go back up the other end of the pitch and win the ball back and work themselves into a position where Grant Hancox got the shot at goal with the penalty chance which meant we got the win.”
So far this season, Croker’s side have secured a total of 12 bonus points in their 18 victories from the 19 fixtures.
But ever the perfectionist, Croker still wants more from his in-form side, who he says have built a real winning mentality.
He added: “I think everybody is pleased with the win, but frustrated with a few things because we have got this winning mindset.
“It seems like it doesn’t really matter what happens to us at the minute because the boys have got a belief that they are gong to win but we are certainly putting that to the test week in, week out at the moment.
“Cleve played very well, and in fact it was one of the best Cleve sides I have ever seen them put out.
“I think what we could really do with at the moment is a really morale-boosting big win, just to get everybody feeling good about themselves again and feeling positive with the ball in hand.”
