Bournemouth have been utilising their squad to the fullest extent in their race for the South West Premier title.
Director Of Rugby Will Croker has been taking complete advantage of a legal loophole this season in their charge towards promotion.
The unlimited rotations on offer during fixtures has allowed him to chop and change his squad to keep them fresh, and Croker said it has helped.
He said: “We have always tried to replace players after about the 25-minute mark especially some of the big boys to give them a 25-minute blow out and we do it with the likes of prop Mike Davies when he is playing.
“Players can go out there for about 25 minutes and give it all they have got.
“Then they can have a ten-minute rest just before half-time and then they have a rest at the break.
“So they have rested for about 25 minutes and are then ready to go again so it is just something we have always done.”
Last Saturday in their 62-12 bonus-point demolition of ninth side Weston-super-Mare at Chapel Gate, Croker again rolled his replacements to the best effect.
Prop Luca Firetto and blindside flanker Ben Russell both departed after just 24 minutes before returning again for the final quarter.
It is not just the players’ fitness put to the test either - with Croker saying his squad have now developed into real versatile all-rounders in a number of different positions.
He added: “You have got to try and rotate people such as the guys who are doing a lot of the donkey work - like scrum work.
“We try and give them an hour if we can so that is why Alan Manning had a bit of a rest and Luca Firetto had a rest and Tom Napier only had about an hour.
“So it is just a case of trying to keep the boys as fresh as possible and we are lucky now that they have done it enough under me and Jon Sanchez that they know they are probably going to play more than one position .
“So Ben Allman played six, seven and hooker and Alan Manning played hooker and number eight so they know they have got to do that.”
