Robbie Boyd has been nominated for the “Samsung try of the month”
Director of rugby Will Croker hailed as "a great advert for Bournemouth Rugby" a stunning score by Robbie Boyd after the try was propelled into the running for a national award.
Boyd finished off a sensational team move in the home win over Lydney in National Three South West earlier this month, the youngster completing the job after Lions had counter-attacked superbly from their own 22.
And now the try is under consideration for the Samsung try-of-the-month award – run in conjunction with England Rugby – which is open to all levels below the Championship.
Eligible tries can be scored by men or women at any age group level, with touch and tag rugby also considered. A current or former England player is tasked with picking the winner and the club concerned receives Samsung products totalling £1,000.
Boyd's who is sponsored by "Chicken and Blues" try was uploaded to England Rugby's Facebook page on Monday and has been watched more than 106,000 times.
Head coach Croker, whose side thumped Dings Crusaders 47-15 on Saturday, was pleased to see Lions receive attention on a national scale. "What's nice about that particular score is the interplay between forwards and backs. We scored another try almost identical to that against Dings and it doesn't happen by accident – the guys work incredibly hard in training.
"There is a lot of rugby played every weekend and to be up for a national award is a nice accolade.
"It's a great advert for Bournemouth Rugby, not just because of the try itself but because you can hear the support and how excited everyone is.
"We've always said we want to play expansive rugby. It suits the players we've got and it's testament to their fitness levels that we are able to play that way."
Bournemouth Lions next game is away to Hornets on 11th February 2017 kick off at 1430. Address Hutton Moor Rd, Weston-super-Mare BS22 8LY. Would be nice to see as many supporters as possible away cheering on the Lions
