Bournemouth head coach Jon Sanchez said his team’s ability to vary their game plan could be a big weapon for them in South West Premier this season.
The Lions were struggling to break down a stubborn Drybrook side last weekend in Gloucestershire’s Forest Of Dean, before a half-time adjustment in their approach brought second-half success.
Will Croker’s men left it late it - until the tenth minute of second-half added time - to register their seventh four-try scoring bonus point in their opening eight games and Sanchez said the interval change paid dividends.
He said: “I thought we just needed to tighten the game up a little bit and make our forwards work a little bit harder.
“So we asked the backs to get the wingers to come in a little bit to start working their patterns of play to just try and get the ball one channel wider from where they were strong around the guard-anchor role.
“I thought if we could get the ball past their number ten then I thought we could be that little bit more effective and be a bit more expansive with it.”
Sanchez hopes his side can continue their stunning start to the new season when fourth placed Exeter University roll into town on Saturday.
The visitors are just 10 points behind leaders Bournemouth and have registered just one less bonus point than the Chapel Gate men.
But Sanchez said him and Director Of Rugby Will Croker have been working on a few tactics to strangle the life out of their opponents.
Sanchez added: “We have got Exeter University at home this week, and it is another young side we are going to come up against.
“They are another side who wants to throw the ball around, so I think we should use our physicality and we will try and stick to our structures and play in the right areas like I keep on saying and just keep on bouncing through.”
